Lazy Sunday

Today was a lazy, lazy day. I slept a good part of the afternoon away. It was wonderful. I might not have mentioned how much work my two older boys do. If it wasn't for them, having a young child would have killed me. They had him outside while I was sleeping. It was so nice.

I have two pictures to share, as promised yesterday. The first is the Zentangle I did. I'm not a doodler. I have no real drawing talent whatsoever, though I am practicing. My stick figures even look bad, so just remember all that when you're looking at the thing I drew for fun.

Zentangles are done with Micron pen on 140 lb hotpress watercolor paper (Fabriano is the brand, I think). They're 3.5" square and they are really easy to get lost in. They are supposed to be very good for your mental health, Zen and all, and there is no wrong way to do one, though I must admit, my second one went into the trash because I ruined it. Leave it to me. It's just a lot of doodling patterns. Like I said, it was very satisfying to get lost in something that took my mind away from everything else. It was like a type of meditation. But for someone who can't draw, it was a bit scary to start. I was so afraid I'd mess it up, then remembered that it isn't like messing up parenting and nothing would be destroyed if I made something ugly and off I went.

The card was so much fun to make. I got to mess in lots of different paints.
The image is from Starving Artistamps. I stamped and heat embossed the lily and then colored it in with Twinkling H20s. I used a bit of watered down gesso on the flower part to lighten the yellow of the paper. The background piece is done with the Cling and Scrunch technique. I used yellow acrylic paint and Olive Green Lumiere. The base is stippled with the remainder of the yellow acrylic paint (no need to waste it, right?). Add a swirled clip and pretty ribbon, and I had myself a card!

I also lost one of the Christmas cards I did for a swap, and I'm out of the embellishment I had for it. So I have to make a new set of 5 cards. I'm not in a Christmas mood yet, and I have to make MORE Christmas cards. Oh well, I guess some of my neat new Christmas sets will see ink this week.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

I love your zentangle very much. Don't ever be afraid of drawing or making mistakes because it is *just paper* and it really doesn't matter if there are mistakes or not :) That bit took me a while to get my head around, as I used to be a bit 'precious' with my drawings. Once you let go of that fear, it is much easier and more enjoyable.
hugs, Tracy
