Two more projects

I'm working on several projects at once. This is a baby blanket I'm crocheting for my friend, Alicia. She's due with her third little boy in early January. She knits some of the most awesome things with great yarn, but she told me she finds crochet hooks "scary". She knits with those pointy sticks, the ones that Jamie Lee Curtis used to stab Michael Meyers in the first Halloween movie, and she thinks the crochet hook is scary?

Anyway, this yarn is called Hunny. It's a beautiful yellow, green, and aqua. It changes texture from a chenille to an eyelash yarn. With the changing texture comes a blanket that isn't quite flat. The yarn doesn't work up the same, so this blanket is going to be nice and scrunchy. I love baby blankets like that!


This is a close up of the blanket. See the shimmer? Oh, it's just so neat. I love working with funky yarns. Every time I make one thing, I find enough yarns I want to wrap around my fingers, if I bought all of them I'd be broke and I'd never do anything but crochet. That would cut into my paper crafting time, which is a huge no-no for me! I love paper crafting, and stamping. I'm learning new stuff, mixed media stuff, and I plan to learn how to paint for real and not just make a big mess.



And that brings me to the next step in the tag project. This step was to do an acrylic wash. I smeared the paint on one tag and then smooshed the tags together. I didn't water the acrylics down a lot, so there is a lot of texture to it. I know it looks like a blood red, but IRL they are more burnt orange. I can't wait for technique for the next set of tags to be posted!

So this has been my Sunday. That and a trip to Outback for our anniversary. A day late, but I hurt my back yesterday picking up my Doodlebug and there was no way I could have gone anywhere. I still hurt like hell today, but enough ibuoprofen to numb a mid sized mammal did the trick.

Oh, and I bought a book to learn how to make macrame beaded jewelry. I learned to macrame when I was 10 or 11, and I love beads, so this seems like a really great thing for me to try! There just aren't enough hours in the day.
